The widely used online graphic design platform, Canva, is reaching out to software developers with a new offering: an app marketplace, a software development kit (SDK), and application programming interfaces (APIs) aimed at creating apps for creativity, workflow optimization, and collaboration within the Canva community.
Canva, known for its free graphic design and teamwork capabilities, serves 135 million active users each month. The company has now launched the Canva Developers Platform, which provides APIs and tools for developers to build applications for the Canva user base. These applications can be distributed via the Canva App Marketplace.
Launched on June 14, the core of the developer platform is the Canva SDK, which allows developers to swiftly create and deploy apps. Over 11,000 developers, who were on the waitlist during the SDK’s nine-month beta phase, can now access it. The Canva Developer Platform also includes:
Canva Connect APIs: Scheduled for release later this year, these REST APIs enable integration of any application with Canva. They are designed to automate team processes, sync designs, assets, and comments, and facilitate workflow automation. The APIs will also incorporate artificial intelligence features.
Canva Apps APIs: Integrated within the SDK, these APIs offer capabilities such as adding content, editing designs, authenticating users, and delivering data through Canva apps.
Canva’s user base includes a diverse range of content creators, from small influencers and business owners to 85% of Fortune 500 companies, including notable names like Zoom and HubSpot. Canva’s platform features an intuitive drag-and-drop interface and templates for presentations, documents, websites, and social media graphics. It also boasts a comprehensive library of fonts, illustrations, video clips, and audio files.
